Mathematics 1 ESO – Unit 13 GRAPHICS AND FUNCTIONS extra activities
Watch the video on “Coordinate System – Plotting Points” and answer:
- What represents the first number in a point?
- What represents the second number in a point?
- Why is point A down from the origin?
- Why is point B on the x-axis of coordinates (not up or down from the origin)?
- Why is point C on the y-axis of coordinates (not left or right from the origin)?

When we studied unit 11 “Polygons and the Circumference” we learnt that there are three relative positions of a point and a circumference. Now we can use coordinates to find the relative position of the point to the circumference.
Watch the video on “Points inside/outside/on a circle” and answer:
- What are the three possible positions for a point, relative to a circumference?
- How do we know where is the point?
- We have a circle of radius 5 with centre in point C(4,1). Use the formula in the video to find where point P (6, 6) is.
- Draw the point and the circle from the previous activity in a coordinate system to graphically check your answer to the previous activity.
